The curious case of a missing Engineering textbook
I remember the first time I was working with a student on their Mathematics, and the conversation moved to their Engineering course.
The student lamented that while they enjoyed engineering, they were very sad a textbook didn’t exist, and in fact, that not many engineering resources existed for QCAA Engineering at all!
Maths exams are hard enough as it is to study for, and we have many, many resources! I thought there was no way that a textbook or worked solutions to past QCAA Engineering exams didn’t exist.
When I looked, much to my surprise, yes, there is currently no QCAA Engineering text for Queensland students!
I got to work, cracked open my old engineering resources from my engineering mathematics course, and have put together some resources for QCAA Engineering.
Every past exam question, animated
Firstly, I have created detailed animations for every past QCAA Engineering external exam question. I strongly believe that the biggest challenge with engineering is visualising all the different processes. You have to have this innate understanding of simple machines, gears and belt drives, and how they all work. Once you can see this in your head, the calculations become so much easier!
Something like the lever rule becomes so much easier to understand when you can visualise it as well. Try 2020 Question 21 and watch the tie line do the work.
Taking it further
If you like these free resources, you will really enjoy my paid topic guides and game plans for the external, which take things to the next level.
The topic guides work as a digital textbook, with every concept in your external fully explained and animated, with interactives to help sharpen your skills. The game plans give you a consistent strategy that you can apply to your external exam for maximum success! You can also get both together for less.
I hope these resources help the many hard working Queensland students out there to understand this challenging, but rewarding subject.
