Terms of use

Last updated: 4 October 2026

These terms cover the use of tangenttuition.com, the free and premium resources on it, and tutoring booked through it. By using the site, buying a resource or booking a session, you agree to them. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to them for you.

1. Who we are

Tangent Tuition is operated by William Peter Roberts, trading as Tangent Tuition (ABN 78 244 158 324), Queensland, Australia. Contact: info@tangenttuition.com. Tangent Tuition is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA), any school, or any other education provider.

2. Using the site

You may use the site for learning, teaching and personal study. You may not use it to break the law, to interfere with how it works, to copy it in bulk, or to try to get access you have not paid for. We may suspend or close an account that does any of these things.

The site may change, be unavailable or be withdrawn at any time. We will give reasonable notice before removing access to anything you have paid for, and if we cannot, section 3 of the Refund Policy applies.

3. Free resources

Free resources are free to open, read, print and use for your own study or for teaching your own students. You may share a link to them. You may not:

  • remove or change the Tangent Tuition name or the attribution on them
  • sell them, bundle them into something you sell, or upload them to another site, platform or resource bank
  • present them as your own work

Teachers may use free resources with their classes and print copies for their own students.

4. Premium resources

When you buy a premium resource you get a personal, non-transferable licence to use it for your own study (or, for a parent, your own child's study) for as long as the site makes it available. You pay once; there is no subscription. You may print it for your own use.

You may not share your sign-in link, share your account, send the resource to anyone else, post it anywhere, or use it to teach students other than the one it was bought for. A school or tutor who wants to use a premium resource with several students needs a group or school licence; email us for a quote.

Bundles are sold as a set. Buying a resource and later buying a bundle that contains it does not entitle you to a refund of the first purchase, so check the bundles listed on each resource page before you buy.

Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST where it applies. We can change prices at any time, but not for a purchase already made.

Payment for premium resources is processed by Stripe through Link, Stripe's checkout and payment service. At checkout the sale is shown as "Sold through Link": Link charges your card, collects any GST, and its own terms and privacy policy apply to the payment. The resource itself is supplied by Tangent Tuition under these terms, and refunds are handled under our Refund Policy.

5. Copyright

Everything on the site that we made is ours: the resources, worked solutions, marking guides, posts, animations, interactives, visualisations, the Tangent Tuition name and logo, and the site design. Copyright is protected under the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth). Using it beyond what sections 3 and 4 allow needs our written permission.

Some resources adapt questions and marking-guide steps from QCAA external assessments. Those questions are © State of Queensland (QCAA) and are used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence, as noted on each resource. Our claim of copyright does not extend to that QCAA material; our adaptations, visualisations, animations and commentary are ours.

The mathematics itself belongs to no one. Nothing here stops you learning a method and using it.

6. Tutoring: 1:1 sessions

Booking. Sessions are booked through the calendar on the Tutoring page. A booking is confirmed when you receive the Calendly confirmation email. The price is as shown on the Tutoring page at the time you book. Payment is taken at booking through Stripe.

Who books. A session for a student under 18 must be booked by a parent or guardian, or with their consent. The person who books is responsible for payment.

Rescheduling and cancellation. You can reschedule or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before the session using the link in your confirmation email, or by emailing us. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, and no-shows, are charged in full. If the student is unwell, tell us as soon as you can and we will reschedule once without charge.

If we cancel. If we have to cancel, we will offer another time or a full refund, whichever you prefer.

Lateness. Sessions start and end at the booked time. If a student is late, the session still ends at the booked time. If we are late, we will add the lost time to the end of the session or to a later session.

Online sessions. Online sessions run on Google Meet. You need a device with a camera, microphone and a stable connection. If a technical problem on our side stops a session, we will make up the time. If it is on your side, we will do what we reasonably can, but the session is still charged.

In-person sessions. In-person sessions are available on the Sunshine Coast between Caloundra and Buderim, at the student's home. For a student under 18, a parent, guardian or other responsible adult must be at the premises for the whole session. We may decline or end a session where that is not the case, and the session is charged.

What a session is. A session is help with mathematics, built around what the student brings. It is not a guarantee of a grade, a result or an ATAR.

7. Tutoring: groups

Group tutoring is quoted individually. The quote sets out the sessions, price, payment terms, cancellation terms and who is responsible for the group. The quote and these terms together form the agreement. Where they conflict, the quote applies.

A school or community organisation that engages us for a group is responsible for student supervision, venue safety and obtaining any parental consents it needs.

8. Academic integrity

We help students understand mathematics and prepare for assessment. We do not complete, write or edit a student's assessment for them. For a Problem-Solving and Modelling Task or other take-home assessment, we will explain methods, discuss approaches and work through similar problems, but the submitted work must be the student's own. We will not help a student breach their school's or the QCAA's academic integrity rules, and we will stop a session that asks us to.

9. Conduct

We expect students to turn up ready to work, and parents and students to treat us with courtesy. We will do the same. We may end a session, or decline future bookings, where behaviour makes a session unworkable. We may also decline a booking where tutoring the student would create a conflict of interest with our teaching role at a school.

10. Accounts

An account is created the first time you buy a premium resource or sign in with an emailed link, and is tied to that email address. There is no password; you sign in with an emailed link. You are responsible for keeping that email account secure and for anything done through a link sent to it. One email address, one account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has used your account.

11. Australian Consumer Law

Our resources and tutoring come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Services must be provided with due care and skill, be fit for any purpose you told us about, and be delivered within a reasonable time. Digital resources must be of acceptable quality, match their description, and be fit for purpose. Nothing in these terms limits those rights.

For a major failure you are entitled to cancel the service and a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. For other failures you are entitled to have the problem fixed within a reasonable time, or to a refund if it is not. How to make a claim is in the Refund Policy.

12. Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, and except for the guarantees in section 11:

  • We are not liable for a student's exam results, grades, ATAR or admission to any course. Results depend on many things we do not control.
  • Resources are prepared carefully against the QCE syllabuses, but we do not guarantee they are free of errors or that they match what any particular school or exam will ask. Tell us about an error and we will fix it.
  • We are not liable for loss caused by things outside our reasonable control, including internet outages, third-party services (Calendly, Stripe, email delivery) and your own equipment.
  • Our total liability for anything connected with a purchase or booking is limited to the amount you paid for it, or, where the law requires, to supplying the service again or paying for it to be supplied again.

13. Links and third-party services

The site links to and embeds third-party services, including Calendly for bookings and Stripe for payment. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, which apply when you use them. We are not responsible for them.

14. Privacy

How we handle personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

15. Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version. Changes apply to purchases and bookings made after the change; the terms in force when you bought or booked continue to apply to that purchase or booking.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of Queensland. Before going to a court or tribunal, we ask you to email us and give us a reasonable chance to sort it out; most problems are solved in one email.
