Privacy policy

Last updated: 4 October 2026

Tangent Tuition collects only the personal information it needs to run the site, deliver tutoring and sell resources, and does not sell it, share it for marketing, or use it for anything else.

1. Who we are

Tangent Tuition is operated by William Peter Roberts, trading as Tangent Tuition (ABN 78 244 158 324), in Queensland, Australia. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Tangent Tuition. Contact: info@tangenttuition.com.

We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), whether or not the Act requires us to.

2. What we collect

We collect personal information only when you give it to us. You can browse the site, read posts and open every free resource without giving us anything.

You mark questions as done while signed inWhich questions you have marked as done in each question setTo show your progress on any device you sign in on
You email usWhatever you includeTo answer you

We also keep what we need to tutor well: notes on what a student is working on, what they find hard and what we covered. We keep these to a minimum and do not share them.

We do not ask for, and ask you not to send, sensitive information such as health or disability details. If a parent chooses to tell us something that will help a student (for example an adjustment the school makes), we use it only for that purpose.

We never see or store full card numbers. Payment is handled by Stripe on Stripe's own pages.

3. Students under 18

Most of our students are under 18. Bookings, purchases and enquiries for a student under 18 should be made by a parent or guardian, or with their knowledge and consent. By booking or paying for a student under 18, you confirm you are their parent or guardian or have that person's authority.

We collect from a student only what we need for the session itself. Session notes, progress and any concerns are shared with the parent or guardian on request. We do not contact a student under 18 directly other than during a session, or where a parent or guardian has asked us to.

4. How we use personal information

We use personal information to:

  • reply to enquiries and quote for group tutoring
  • book, confirm, run, reschedule and invoice tutoring sessions
  • deliver purchased resources and let you sign in to them later
  • send the emails the site needs to work: sign-in links, purchase confirmations, booking confirmations and reminders, and replies to you
  • keep the records Australian tax law requires us to keep
  • deal with a complaint, refund request or dispute

We do not send marketing emails, newsletters or promotions. If that changes, we will ask for your consent first and every such email will have an unsubscribe link.

5. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the services that run the site, and only the minimum each needs:

ServiceWhat it handlesWhere it is based
Calendly1:1 bookings: your name, email and chosen timeUnited States
Google (Google Meet)Online tutoring sessions: the name and email address used to join, and the video, audio and chat of the session while it runsUnited States
StripePayments for premium resources and sessions: your email, amount and card details (Stripe holds the card details, we do not)United States
HostingerHosting the website and your account record (email address and purchases)
Sending sign-in links, purchase and booking emails
Singapore

Each of these has its own privacy policy and handles your information under it. Because some are overseas, your information may be stored or processed outside Australia. We choose services that publish strong security and privacy practices, but we cannot guarantee an overseas provider will handle it exactly as Australian law would require.

We will also disclose personal information if the law requires it, for example to a court or regulator, or where it is necessary to protect a student's safety.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not give it to anyone for their own marketing.

6. How we keep it safe

Accounts have no password. You sign in with a link emailed to you that works once and expires after 15 minutes. Keep your email account secure, because anyone who can read your email can use that link.

The site uses HTTPS. Access to enquiry, booking and purchase records is limited to the person who runs Tangent Tuition. Card details never pass through the site.

No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and, where the Privacy Act requires it, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as soon as practicable.

7. How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that do not lead to tutoring: up to 12 months, then deleted.
  • Booking and session records, including tutoring notes: while you are a student with us and for 12 months after your last session, then deleted.
  • Purchase records and account email addresses: for as long as your account exists, so you can open what you bought, and in any case for the five years Australian tax law requires for sales records.
  • Progress on question sets: for as long as your account exists, so it is there whenever you sign in.
  • Emails: deleted when no longer needed to answer you or keep a record of a dispute.

You can ask us to close your account and delete your information at any time (see section 9). We will keep only what tax law or a live dispute requires.

8. Cookies and analytics

The site itself sets only the cookies needed to keep you signed in after you use a sign-in link. Calendly and Stripe set their own cookies on their embedded calendar and checkout pages, under their own policies.

9. Your rights: access, correction and deletion

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you or a student you are responsible for, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email info@tangenttuition.com. We will respond within 30 days and will not charge you for it. We may need to confirm who you are first; for a student's information, we will confirm you are their parent or guardian.

10. Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, email info@tangenttuition.com with what happened. We will acknowledge your complaint within 7 days and aim to resolve it within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

11. Changes to this policy

We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top. Changes that affect how we handle information you have already given us will be emailed to you.
